Back Then By Jim Keenan
Back then it wasn’t thought absurd
to, just for honor, keep you word.
And people seemed to know what’s right or wrong.
Swear words weren’t thought polite.
And, back then, you might have to fight
if you degraded women in a song
Most folks took pride in their job.
The Law still ruled over the mob,
and heads were bowed when folks held out their hand.
People talked with an open mind,
in hopes that, in the end, they’d find
The Truth, not win or lose, but understand.
And neighbors helped out when they could,
though no one told them that they should,
and no one thought that help was a birth right.
And if, one day, duty called,
no one cried and no one bawled,
or headed to the border to take flight
No, they gathered up their courage,
or risked facing their peer’s outrage.
And most, took pride in serving this great land.
Back then, we knew what we stood for,
before the politicians tore
apart the principles for which we stand.
Now, ethnic factions split our land
with language we don’t understand,
that serves to sever ties that once did bind.
Politicians curry favor
with splinter groups, just to savor
election votes, both purchased and consigned.
Illegals threaten and demand.
I for one don’t understand,
why it is, that we fear to prosecute?
They cross our borders every day
to work, but we alone will pay
more taxes, while our services they loot.
Invasion or encroachment?
Either one will steal our land!
What is it about “illegal”
politicians don’t understand?
If breaking laws will change them,
what’s a legislature for?
Mayhem and chaos lurk outside,
and these fools throw wide the door
So take a hand in your freedom.
Raise you voice to let them know
that you won’t stand to be sold out
and there are two things they should know.
You can’t have a sovereign nation
without border integrity,
and that they once swore
to represent our legal citizenry!
